Grass a Granny

I’ve heard all the arguments for and against old folk driving. At the end of the day, they need to get from A to B and as long as they are not crippled by bad eye sight and can respond in reasonable time, then I have no problem them being on the road. I will even allow them to drive slow, as much as it irritates me, even in the morning. Oh yes, the morning. Over 65’s should be banned from the road in rush hour, but apart from that I’m OK with it.

What is not allowed in my book however, is the major incompetency, from endangering other road users to causing damage to other vehicles during parking manoeuvres. To me, there is just no excuse for that. So today when I witnessed an old granny reversing out a space and tearing the nose of her car down the passenger door of the car beside her, I wasn’t going to let it lie.

Needless to say she was totally oblivious to what just happened and drove off. What do you do in that situation? I think about 1% of me felt guilty about what happened next, as I wrote her number plate and my contact details on a scrap of paper and put it under the wing mirror. “Happy to be a witness” my note said.

I’m fed up of people in this country not taking responsibility for their own actions. It doesn’t matter how old she is, it doesn’t allow her to go about damaging other peoples property. She’s never too old to learn a lesson. Yeah she might not be able to eat for the next month after paying the excess. *Shrug*

While I’m on the subject of responsibility, I went to lunch after this incident and dropped my sandwich on the ground in Marks and Spencer’s cafe. Yes I sulked for a bit, it might have been karma but I never went to ask for them to replace it, it was squarely my fault. I’ve seen that happen in McDonalds before where people expect their spilled trays to be replaced free of charge. Again, this frustrates me, lack of accountability is crippling this bloody country.

Damn those wee old grannies, damn them to hell!

There's plenty of people out there that would do the same as that wee old granny in that situation and it is disgraceful. Is driving away from an accident not a crime? No doubt she has also robbed a few shops in her time by forgetting about something she put in her wee trolley – the ones with two wheels they drag behind them!

Stu – you can keep us informed of any updates in this situation to make sure the wee old bag gets her just rewards. Toast on beans for the next few months for her and another jumper on instead of turning the heating on………. serves her right………

As for that sanwich, you could have donated it to Haiti – I hear you like donating to Haiti :-)

Well in the end they never got back to me. So all in all it was a bit of a non story.
