My New blog

Well this is my new blog. It’s got a fancy URL and everything (www.stublog.co.uk). Why did I change? You always hear me harping on about ‘closed loop’ technology. I was finding Windows Live Spaces a bit of restrictive for my own tastes. It just doesnt let me tinker around enough. Furthermore, that big ad was taking up too much real estate on my screen and if theres going to be a ad on my blog I want the cash for it.

I understand that they have to fund the service but I pointed out a bug to them that I couldn’t pay to get the ad’s away because I didnt log into Live Spaces with a hotmail.com or live.com Windows Live ID. But they decided to ignore that.

All this comes on the back of an email I got today saying I was stripped of my Windows Live Butterfly status. Apparently I wasn’t testing the products enough. Heres why, most of them are churned out crap. I’m not even sure what the status entitled me to anyway, apparently I was supposed to get first sniffs of all the new and wonderful products. A year on and I was still waiting. It seems like a poor attempt to get more people beta testing for free to be honest.

I think there’s more than meets the eye with the MSN to Windows Live rebranding thats gone on recently. The MSN Division was/is the laughing stock of Microsoft, from an internal perspective. The rebranding only seems to have papered over the cracks, everything continues to be done half hearted with a new brand. Goto www.live.com if you want an example…..Google must be laughing.

The only exception to this is Windows Live Messenger, ironically this is where I got the Windows Live Butterfly thing from, as a lot of you know I was involved in the early beta testing (if you got back thru my blog at http://stuuu.spaces.live.com you will see). Which brings me to another point actually, the fact that I cant export my previous blogs from Windows Live Spaces is pissing me off (if anyone comes across anything that can do this please let me know).

Anyway, back to the new blog. It’s a bit bareboned just now but you will see me adding some stuff here and there. Another reason for leaving Windows Live Spaces was to try and get out of the shackles of having a ridicolously long URL. Hopefully this will help on my quest to get some new readers. For any existing readers, please feel free to sign up and leave comments. I always like a bit of feedback on my posts.

You don’t have a back to home/ most recent blog button on your new blog :-( So I have to keep changing it in the address http://www.stublog….. bar to get back to the start and to update it.
Oh, and the pigging NHS have finally decided to block MSN nationwide :-( … maybe thats why I get more work done these days!

    Von,

If you press the big stublog image at the top, the one with the picture of the Icon, it gets you back to the start. I will add that button on tonight tho for you.

I had a feeling they would tighten up security. Obviously I can’t tell you much about it on here but I will explain how things have changed when I speak to you.
